Redefining Success:

“Beyond the Scoreboard” is a program which measures success in more ways than wins and losses. The “IMPACT” a program makes can be a more accurate measurement of a program.

•Wins and Losses are often decided by talent and a coaches ability to guide talent.

•Teams with limited talent may not always meet the expectations of stakeholders when wins are the lone measurement.

•This lone measurement is often problematic for high school coaches.

•Ultimately we want to measure success by how much “IMPACT” our program has on the people around us.

Measurements of Success:

On the Court Impact: Impacting a community through success on the court.

We will not ignore the importance of winning games and the success on the scoreboard. However, the success on the scoreboard says more than a win. It has a greater “IMPACT” on the people who support the team.

Academic Impact: Impacting a student athlete through the classroom.

Academic success is achieved when student athletes graduate high school, pursue post secondary academic or training goals and are successful in part because of the guidance of the school and coaching staff. Our program should have an “IMPACT” on their academic success.

Community Impact: Impacting both a player and community.

Student athletes grow as people when they are “IMPACTED” by amazing people or groups of people who have achieved success and overcome great obstacles along the way. In the same right they grow when they give back to their communities through acts of servant leadership.

Team Impact: Impact teammates and coaches through strong relationships.

Higher levels of success are achieved when coaches and players develop strong bonds and growing relationships. Their relationship “IMPACTS” each other on the court but more importantly as each of them grow older and can support each other through life experiences.

Player Impact: Impact the building young men.

Young players unknowingly are seeking the characteristics and the guidance on how to become a quality young man. They seek guidance from fathers, grandfathers, uncles, pastors and their coaches. As a community of men we can have a great “IMPACT” on each player by teaching them to be men of character and integrity.

Family Impact: Impact of all players past, present, and future.

Where on the court measurements reveals short term success, the development of a basketball family reveals long term success. Evidence of our program’s “IMPACT” is revealed when Alumni return to the program to share their successes and continue to influence the program that made them.
